The Robert de Rustafjaell Collection of Wonders
Robert de Rustafjaell (1859–1943) was a man of many aliases who amassed several collections of both valuable and worthless antiquities. Many of these were purchased at auction by Sir Henry Wellcome (1853–1936) in 1906, 1907, and 1913, with around 600 objects—and perhaps as many as 1000—now housed in the Egypt Centre. This trail presents some of the most well-known pieces from his collections, which provide an insight into the collecting and dispersal history of the early twentieth century.
