- Description
-
This is part of a wooden coffin of the Twenty-fifth Dynasty. In the centre the goddess Isis is shown in the attitude of mourning and holding a folded cloth. Egyptologists believe this was probably a mummy bandage. On either side of a figure the inscription quotes the assurance of Osiris that he will provide funerary offerings for the deceased, Huiru(?). No parentage is given. The filling in of the hieroglyphs with white uniform background is typical of the Twenty-fifth Dynasty. The reverse (interior of the coffin) has a plain white wash. This is the foot end of rectangular coffin (bottom part). This item was purchased by Wellcome at auction in 1927.
