Description

Fragment of linen from a male shroud. Early to mid second century AD from Thebes. This shows the right area of the chest of an Osiris figure wearing a bead net over a red garment. The Osiris figure wears a shrine-shaped pendant with an ibis inside. Osiris holds a fail in his right hand. The beginning of a column of hieroglyphs is also preserved, although these are much faded. Purchased by Wellcome at auction in 1906 from the collection of Robert de Rustafjaell.
