Cylindrical pottery jar with flat base, rolled rim, and thin wavy-handle. Below the rim a thin string impression remains. The jar still contains its original contents, which has resulted in the vessel cracking, although it is still "intact". Such vessels date from the Predynastic to the Early Dynastic Period. They are made from Marl clay, which needs a higher firing temperature that Nile clay. This particular vessel dates to the Naqada IIIB Period. It was excavated by the British School of Archaeology in Egypt within grave 7 at Tarkhan during the 1911–12 season. The object was gifted to the University of Wales, Aberystwyth by John Bancroft Willans, a subscriber of the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, who received the object in 1912. Subsequently gifted to the Egypt Centre in 1997.
