Description

Upper part of coffin lid dating to the late Twenty-first to early Twenty-second Dynasty. Much damaged, the head is shown with a heavy wig. A red band (stola) is positioned across the chest. Both the presence of the stola and the oversized collar have been recognised as distinctive of the late Twenty-first to early Twenty-second Dynasty. This object shows how wooden masks were fixed and removed from the coffin. Purchased by Wellcome in 1906 from the collection of Robert de Rustafjaell.
