Description

Black stone mould. 115 x 54 x 12mm. For a collection of stone moulds and suggestions as to what they may have been used for see Lacovara et al. 2001. 'The Collector's Eye....' p99-101. Bes-like head with long beard and another long arrow-shaped motif on one side, long motif on the other side. Formerly the property of Mansoor Abd Essayid purchased by Wellcome in 1934.

Other Identity
(This Wellcome label was found seperate from any object and had the words 'mould: black basalt' It could belong to this mould or any other black mould in the collection, but we only have 6 basalt moulds and EC656 is the only one of the right size..)
