- Description
-
A fragment of decorated painted wall plaster from Amarna showing a bunch of grapes. This is from the North Riverside Palace at Amarna and shows lotus flowers and grapes. It was published by Fran Weatherhead 2007 'Amarna Palace Paintings' p225 fig.120. Wine making in ancient Egypt dates back to at least the Early Dynastic Period. According to Plutarch it was the god Osiris who first taught the Egyptians to drink wine. The best wine came from the Delta region.
