Description

A blue-glazed steatite scaraboid with the back in the form of a fly. It is longitudinally pierced with a cartouche-shaped base inscribed with the name of Amenhotep I or Amenhotep II. Possibly from Saqqara. The object is on long-term loan since 2005 from the British Museum who acquired it in 1899 from the Rev. Chauncey Murch. For an ivory fly amulet, see Anonymous (1994, 264).
