Description

A medium cylindrical Marl clay jar with a flat base, rolled rim, and a string-line decoration just below the rim. Such vessels date from the Predynastic to the Early Dynastic Period. This is the last in the line of wavy handled jars put in sequence by Petrie. It was excavated by the British School of Archaeology in Egypt within grave 9 at Tarkhan during the 1911–12 season. This tomb, which dates to the Naqada IIIb Period, was positioned on Hill F to the immediate north of the valley cemetery. The object was gifted to the University of Wales, Aberystwyth by John Bancroft Willans, a subscriber of the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, who received the object in 1912, and was subsequently gifted to the Egypt Centre in 1997.
