A plaster cast of a New Kingdom funerary stela depicting a certain Amunemope and his son Paraemheb worshipping a god named "Mekal, god of Beth-Shean". Mekal is a most mysterious god, as he still lacks secure identification in other Egyptian and Levantine sources. The original stela found in 1928 in Beth-Shean (northern Palestine), during excavations of the University of Pennsylvania Museum, directed by Alan Rowe. It is now in the Israel Museum (IAA S-982). The cast of the stela was given to the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1933 by the Department of Antiquities of Jerusalem through the offices of James Starkey. On loan at Swansea since 1971 from the Wellcome Trust.
